Biography

A few words about me….

I grew up on the edge of London, and some of my most vivid childhood memories I have are of going to London, to the museums, to walk along the Thames and above all to see the Christmas lights. The magic of those occasions ignited a love of London that still fizzes in my tummy.

Guiding is my pleasure and passion. I come to it having spent my whole career working with people in a number of roles, including as a nursery class teacher and a college lecturer. I have a friendly, warm and approachable manner.

I have had a life long love of history, literature and travel. I am very curious about most things, with an eye for the details.

CITY OF LONDON GUIDE.

Guided Tours

All of my walks are full of history, surprising details, facts and humour with a clear narrative thread….

The Thames and the City:
Starting in the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral we walk along the banks of the Thames ending close to the Tower of London. Along the way find out about the importance of the Thames to London and how it contributed to the success of the City. See stunning architecture, bridges, views, medieval remains, a mosaic and hear the stories about them.

Centuries in the city:

The City has been home, workplace and a social centre since the Romans settled. On this walk we literally walk into centuries of human existence, from Roman walls, to 21st Century self cleaning architectural wonders, walking past medieval churches overshadowed by gleaming sky scrapers, public buildings, grand housing, markets and the alleyways of the past, these structures all contribute to the story of the City.

Trading, Coffee drinking and Business in the City:

From its earliest days the City has been about Trade. We will walk past sites of early trade and markets. Discover some Livery Halls and the role that the Guilds played in medieval society. We will find banks, coffee shops, the Royal Exchange and Leadenhall Market and find out why each was so important and how sometimes the best laid plans go wrong! We come right up to date in the centre of the Eastern Cluster of new builds, the insurance hub of the City. This is an intriguing mixture of historical events, mishaps, finance and the wonder of modern architecture.
