Join Barts Heritage in collaboration with the City of London Guides, for a special 2-hour tour of St Bartholomew's Hospital. Explore the surrounding area of the site and learn about the hospital's rich 901-year history. The tour will also take in the conservation work to rescue and rejuvenate Bart's North Wing, a Grade 1-listed building that includes the staircase decorated by William Hogarth.
This is a limited offer, we are only running these special 2-hour tours on the following dates:
Wednesday 2 October 2024
Wednesday 6 November 2024
Wednesday 4 December 2024
Thursday 2 January 2025
Meet under the statue of King Henry VIII
The first hour of the tour will explore the wider history of the hospital and the nearby surrounding area. The second hour will involve entering the North Wing of the hospital. As this is currently a building site, all visitors will be required to wear full PPE (provided), including a hi vis jacket, steel-toe capped boots and a hard hat.
Please note, this tour involves accessing a scaffolding viewing deck. There are 31 steps on the staircase to reach the deck. The paintings in the Hogarth staircase are partially obstructed by scaffolding as our Conservation Team work on them. The North Wing site is not currently wheelchair accessible and there is an age limit of 18+ to attend the tours.
The City of London Guides run separate tours of just the hospital grounds (so not covering the North Wing) on Friday afternoons. These tours have no age limit and are accessible for wheelchair users.
Barts Heritage run Conservation Tours of the North Wing most Monday - Saturdays, twice a day.
