London Open House, 21 - 22 Sept

City of London Guides will be participating in this year’s Open House. We’ll be running a series of free walks from Guildhall Yard on both Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2019.

Choose  from:

1.  Up In the World: Highways & Byways of the City (runs 10:45, 11:45, 12:45, 13:45, 14:45)

Take a chance to look up in the City and walk through the Highwalks and byways of the Square Mile. See the Cripplegate area and walk towards Barbican Hall. We'll show you the Roman Wall and a church with a link to Shakespeare.

2.   Murder Mystery & Medicine: Alleyways North (runs 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30)

Walk with a City guide towards the North of the City of London. You'll journey towards Smithfield to hear stories of murder, mystery and medicine and see places including West Smithfield and St. Bartholomew the Great Church.

3.   Westward Ho! Courtyards & Alleyways in the City (runs 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, 13:15, 14:15)

Walk towards St. Bride's church with your guide around the West of the City. You'll go through some of the Courtyards and Passages that take you Westwards. See Stationer's Hall and learn why Christopher Wren was able to inspire a baker.

4.   All Change at Aldgate: The East of the City (runs 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00)

Travel through the East of the City of London where your guide will introduce you to stories and tales of people and places. You'll see gems including Fredericks Place and travel through some hidden places towards your destination.

You’ll need to get a ticket from the City Guides stall in Guildhall Yard, which you’ll find outside the Art Gallery. The walks are allocated on a first-come, first served basis from 10am, so once each group is filled up (max 30 people) you’ll be put on the next available one.

While waiting around why not make the most of the area and visit the Great Hall or Guildhall Art Gallery – 2 of London’s great gems which are crying out to be explored before your guide takes you off round the streets of the City.

And when you've finished your walk, why not stroll over to Leadenhall, where regular tours are taking place from 10:30am to 4:30pm.

Nearly all the regular walks and tours offered on this website are just turn up and pay or free. For these walks no advanced booking is possible. There are only a few tours that need to be booked in advance (Illuminated River, Smithfield Market, Leadenhall Market walks and Guildhall and the Roman Bath House tours) because of restricted numbers.

Note: tours run every day of the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. In exceptional circumstances we may not have a guide available and we'll let the City Information Centre know.

If you want a walk or lecture for a group of people, then please use our Find a Guide section.
