Biography

I'm Robert French, a native Londoner, raised in the South East London suburb of New Eltham, not far from where Henry VIII was raised.

I'm a qualified guide for the City of London and Clerkenwell and Islington.

I love to show people some of the great things we have on offer and draw out what's happened over the ages.  I like quirky links between people and places, literature, singing and humour, so I try to keep my tours entertaining and light-hearted, but grounded in fact.  I love to research new topics, so if you have a particular topic you want to focus on for a team event or private group tour, please do let me know.  I've done several such tours recently and really enjoyed them - who would have thought "City Computers, of the History of Accountancy in the City" could be fun, but it was!

Qualifications

I'm qualified as a City of London and Clerkenwell and Islington guide.

I have a good grounding in the workings of the City and its instituations through my other job as a finance manager - I'm a qualified management accountant and have been Head of Treasury for a major UK corporate.

Put that together and hopefully you get an enjoyable and insightful tour!

Guided Tours

Recently: Charles Dickens in the City, Roman London, London's River, City Computers (The Accountants' Tour), City Ages (the City through history), Great Fire of London.

I specialise in commissions and themes, but am also happy to do a general introduction to suit.  For me it's important that the group has fun and gets what they want out of the walk.
